Week 3 was crazy, ya'll.
I'm just gonna get right to the good part.
I have been on👏🏽 the 👏🏽hunt👏🏽 for a Le Creuset Dutch oven for about a year, ever since Annie's parents made me a gorgeous harvest squash soup and served it with staggering ease in a devastatingly charming white cast iron pot. Not only was the soup out of control, the presentation was classy AF. I needed it.
And the hunt began.
Most people know that Le Creuset kitchen wares are like, Oprah expensive. So I wasn't about to drop a few hundred dollars on a brand new one. (But I really might have, you guys. Like it was getting serious). I kept searching far and wide, up and down, at thrift stores and Craigslist, NextDoor, Letgo, and OfferUp- scrolling as fast as my pointer finger could...to no avail. As fall turned to winter, a reluctant cloud settled over me. I would simply have to wait. Maybe it wasn't meant to be. Maybe I was doomed to just make do with the pot I had. Forever. Yet another Maryland winter would envelope me, moving as slow as a glacier.
Yes- it may have been seasonal affective disorder, a yearly curse I've learned to bear. But the weight feels heavier without the Le Creuset. As January 1st came closer, I began to accept that the No New Project was beginning, and I would most certainly not have a used OR new Le Creuset this year. And, if this luck streak kept up, maybe I never would.
But as luck would have it, fortune was just beyond my horizon. The third week in January, after returning from a work trip, I pulled out my laptop to give destiny another chance. And girl. SHE. CAME. THROUGH. Posted right there on OfferUp, one town over. What are the chances?
Here is a screenshot of my discovery.
Carole, you absolute Goddess. All I had left to do was to meet a living *queen* in a Popeye's/IHOP parking lot and wait for the drop to happen. Mere minutes later, and she was mine. For LESS THAN HALF of her original price, I got Rosa. You guys, I'm so happy. I am so happy that I waited. Instead of going to waste in Carole's garage, Rosa now has a happy and loving home where she will get appreciated all the time. You rock, Rosa! And way to go, Carole!
Here she is:
What? You've never seen a grown woman do a photo shoot with a Dutch oven before?
The very first thing I'm going to make is an African Peanut Soup by Pick Up Limes, a food blog I've been following. Here's the link if you want to try it with me: https://www.pickuplimes.com/single-post/2019/12/19/African-Peanut-Soup
Other than that colossal win, the past few days have been pretty mellow. I'm coming around the corner toward my first month of buying nothing new. I do feel a little nervous/apprehensive about how the rest of the year is going to look, but I'm so happy with the money I'm saving and the new perspective I'm teaching myself. I'm also thrilled with my new pal, Rosa. Hope everyone has a FANTASTIC week, and thanks for visiting the No New Project.
